About therapy

Therapy is a collaborative process where we work together to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I use a person-centered approach, which means I’ll meet you where you are, with empathy and non-judgment. In this approach, your feelings, experiences, and goals guide the process, and I provide a safe, accepting space for you to express yourself.

During our sessions, we’ll focus on building a trusting relationship where you can feel comfortable sharing at your own pace. You’ll be able to explore your challenges and work on developing new insights, coping strategies, and ways to address any obstacles you may be facing.

Therapy can be a space for exploration, understanding, and healing—it’s not just about addressing problems but also about helping you reconnect with yourself and your inner strength. Throughout our work together, we will focus on developing coping strategies, self-awareness, and emotional resilience. This is your process, and I’ll be with you as we explore whatever challenges or goals you bring to our sessions.

Trauma and the body

Trauma can result from experiences like loss, neglect, abuse, or ongoing stress, affecting both the mind and body. It may show up as emotional overwhelm, physical symptoms, or difficulty feeling grounded, and could manifest as anxiety, depression, difficulty trusting, feeling disconnected, or even physical tension or pain.

While I’m still learning about trauma-informed therapy, I gently integrate body awareness practices when appropriate, always at your pace and with ongoing feedback. There’s no need to rehash painful memories, and we’ll move slowly to ensure that the work feels safe and manageable.

The aim of our work together is to help you build stability and regulate emotions. In the stabilization phase, we’ll focus on grounding techniques and coping strategies to manage overwhelm. Once you feel more stable, we can move into processing, exploring deeper emotional work if you’re ready. Finally, in the integration phase, we’ll focus on applying what you’ve learned in therapy to your everyday life, helping you feel empowered and more connected.

About me

Qualifications

I am an Accredited Member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and follow their set of Ethical Guidelines. I hold a Masters degree from Strathclyde University in Person-Centred Experiential Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have talking professions liability insurance and registration with the (ICO) Information Commissioners Office. I undertake regular private supervision and hold all client information and sensitivities with confidentiality and under the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) guidelines.

About Tiril

I have been working as therapist for seven years. Before arriving as a therapist, my background was in the arts and community engagement. I still work with a social enterprise (a forest nursery) and believe greatly in the regulating benefits of nature connection. I live in the north-west of Scotland, by the coast, and enjoy the outdoors through gardening, surfing, cycling and yoga.

Fees

All sessions take place online, usually via Google Meets (it’s simple to use and free). ​

I offer a 30 minute free introductory session

£55 per 1 hour session

If you find that money will be a barrier to having a session then I am open to discussing a concession fee that works for both of us. I only have a few concessionary spaces.
